CAN EVERYDAY CONSUMER CHOICES
IMPACT THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT?

What would happen if we returned all the packaging
back to the store we bought it from?

How do our food decisions impact the air we breathe
and the water we drink?

How can your family car help the environment?

How can Marin and California lead the way with intelligent environmental policy?

AMY LUERS, PhD, Environmental Scientist CHARLES McGLASHAN,
Marin County Supervisor
Betsy Rosenberg has gone from reporter/ anchor at one of America's largest news networks, to EcoTalk on KCBS and Air America radio. She has launched “Don't Be Fueled! Mothers for Clean & Safe Vehicles” to increase supply & demand for more fuel-efficient family-friendly vehicles. Her vision: a world where “growth” refers to trees, “develop-ment” reflects our evolution as humans, “capital” includes natural resources, and “success” is based on how well we love and protect our kids, country and planet!

Searching for Solutions to an Overpackaged World
About half the volume of America's municipal solid waste is packaging, and the "upstream" costs in energy and resources are even more alarming. Daniel Imhoff offers steps toward a more sustainable future. He will explore positive trends including producer responsibility and "take-back" laws, eco-design, plant-based plastics, labeling to disclose impacts of products, and bulk versus the wasteful global exchange of single-serving containers.

Union of Concerned Scientists
Amy Lynd Luers leads UCS's California climate change impacts work aimed at strengthening support for strong state and regional climate policies. She has conducted applied research on global environmental change in the U.S. and throughout Latin America. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and a M.A. in International Policy Studies from Stanford, and a B.S. in Environmental Resources Engineering from Humboldt State University.
Charles McGlashan offers a broad vision based on sustainability: better transit systems, more affordable housing, renewable energy and green building, and protection of habitat and open space. He will provide insight into community energy choices and local action that will position Marin to lead by example in the vital arena of environmental protection, and address the three “Es” of sustainability: environment, economy, and social equity.
